VISUAL ASTROLOGY

Visual astrology is a name coined by astrologer Bernadette Brady. It reintroduces the ancient art of astrology as performed by Mesopotamian and Egyptian astrologers – when astrologer/priests observed the night sky and would interpret the movement of the planets as messages from the Gods to the world of man. Most modern astrologers have no real connection to the actual sky – for them, astrology is done on a computer and in books. They don’t look up and follow the movement of Mars to see if he catches Saturn before he disappears underneath the horizon. The ancient astrologer/priests would follow the sky story night after night and observe what was happening and if necessary, they could f.x. warn the king that an attack was coming. I myself was one of those astrologers who had my nose in my computer and in books until I discovered this most fascinating branch of astrology a few years ago.

Bernadette Brady created an astrological software called “Starlight” (see www.zyntara.com) to display what the sky looked like at any given moment. I took a course in Visual Astrology from Bernadette Brady and have used Visual Astrology in my readings ever since. They bring in a different dimension, a visual image, which leaves clients often stunned and always with a richer experience than “normal” astrology. Adding the ancient mythology of Mesopotamia and Egypt to the Visual Astrology makes for an incredible journey into yourself.

Modern astrology only considers the tiny part of the sky that is occupied by the ecliptic. Ancient astrologers incorporated the whole night sky, the constellations (which are not the same as the zodiac signs) and the fixed stars. Is the foot of Ophiuchus, the Serpent Healer, on the horizon at the moment you were born? How bright was Venus? Venus can be no more than 48 degrees from the Sun – and at that point she has reached her maximum luminescence. When Venus is very bright she gives power to that which she is radiating. If Venus is close to another planet, f.x. Saturn, she gives more power to Saturn. Is Mars in the Underworld or is he entering or leaving the Underworld – or is he up and visible? These positions indicate vastly different expressions of Mars.

SOLAR ARCS

Solar Arcs is an ancient, very simple prediction technique that is incredibly accurate and useful. My advice to any astrologer/astrology student is “don’t leave home without it!” For some reason it has never really caught on in Europe but it is much more commonly used in the US. I first learned this technique when I was studying with Noel Tyl many years ago and I was stunned by how powerful it was.

It is related to secondary progression and it is based on the Sun’s movement. The Sun moves roughly one degree a day and in secondary progression we equate one day with one year. The exact degree and minutes the Sun moves depends on the time of year you were born. So once you know exactly how much your Sun moves in one day = one year, the rest of the chart is then rotated the exact same degree/minutes for the particular date you are looking at for a chart and voila – you have a solar arc direction. If the Sun moves 1 degree 3 minutes per year, the entire chart is rotated by 1 degree 3 minutes per year. Most astrology programs should have that function.

When I learned about solar arcs in a lesson from Noel Tyl’s Correspondence Course, I reacted exactly the way he had predicted – I couldn’t fall asleep that night because I was analyzing the big solar arcs aspects in my life and was just blown away by how dead-on they were. I have used them faithfully ever since.

Let us look at a case study – the one that prompted me to write this entry. In 2008, a client had consulted both me and another (much more famous and published) astrologer because her company had announced that layoffs were coming. She naturally wanted to know when she could be expected to be given notice. I looked at her chart and the answer was obvious to me: at the very end of December 2009 Solar Arc Pluto would square her Ascendant and the Secondary Progressed MC would change signs and enter Gemini, so I told her somewhere at the very end of 2009/beginning of 2010 she would be given notice. She found it hard to believe that she would stay in her job that long, but there was no doubt in my mind.

The other astrologer also looked at her chart and said she would be fired in August of 2009 and the holiday season 2009 would be nice and quiet.

January 5, 2010 my client got the memo – she was being fired! Solar Arc Pluto was right on target! And what happened in August 2009? A minor change within her company, but nothing that affected my client in any way.

So, how can two skilled, professional astrologers have such different predictions? Well, it depends on which tools you use! As with any other job, you must have the right tools for the job. I used Solar Arcs in my prediction - the other astrologer did not.

Therefore, she was simply not able to see the upheaval and turmoil indicated in my client's chart at this time. Solar arc theory has proven over and over again that it is highly accurate and if you are an astrologer or an astrology student and you are not yet familiar with it, do yourself and your (future) clients a favor and learn about them. Try them out. I know when I did, I was immediately convinced.

Prediction without solar arcs is like predicting without transits! That’s how powerful they are!
